Several weeks of absence expected: Tsitsipas underwent back surgery
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who recently had back surgery, now needs to rest before considering a return.
Tsitsipas has not played any matches since his second-round loss at the US Open against Daniel Altmaier. The Greek, ranked 27th in the world, has been suffering from a recurring back issue for several months, which forced him to retire in the first round at Wimbledon against Valentin Royer.
He is out for the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing next week, and Tsitsipas is not expected to return for several weeks. According to Tennis 24, the 27-year-old player underwent back surgery, which requires between two and six weeks of rest depending on his recovery.
Tsitsipas is registered to participate in the Six Kings Slam exhibition, which will take place in Riyadh from October 15 to 18, and he now begins a race against time to be ready in Saudi Arabia in a month.
