Still suffering from a shoulder injury, Shelton withdraws from the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo

Ben Shelton's shoulder injury throws his end-of-season ambitions into question. Forced to withdraw from several competitions and currently in recovery, the young American player now has to pull out of the Tokyo tournament.
Ben Shelton is currently absent from the circuit due to a shoulder injury. Forced to retire before the start of the fifth set against Adrian Mannarino in the third round of the US Open, the world's No. 6 has not returned to competition.
Withdrawn from the Davis Cup and the Laver Cup, the 22-year-old American, who won his first Masters 1000 in Toronto this summer, is still recovering. Moreover, even though he was registered for the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo scheduled for next week, Shelton has withdrawn, as has Benjamin Bonzi.
These two withdrawals benefit Fabian Marozsan and Marcos Giron, who both enter the main draw without going through qualifications. Currently 5th in the Race, Shelton hopes to qualify for the ATP Finals, but his shoulder injury hampers his plans for the end of the season.
