She did everything so I could get here," Anisimova thanks her mother after heavy Wimbledon final loss
Amanda Anisimova endured one of the toughest afternoons of her young career, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Świątek in the Wimbledon final.
Overwhelmed by the stress and stakes of her first Grand Slam final, the American never found her rhythm—despite entering as the player with the most grass-court wins this season (12 victories).
During the trophy ceremony, she made sure to congratulate Świątek and thank her mother, who traveled to England to witness the final:
"Iga, you're an incredible player. You proved that today. You've been a true inspiration to me. You're an amazing athlete and you've had two unbelievable weeks here. Reaching your first Wimbledon final and winning it is really something special. Congratulations to you and your team.
Thank you to everyone who supported me from the first round. The atmosphere has been amazing. You carried me through this entire tournament. Even though I lacked energy today and wish I could've performed better, you were there for me and cheered me on. Thank you so much. [...]
Without my mom, who arrived this morning, I wouldn't be here... (she breaks down in tears). Honestly, my mom worked much harder than I ever did. I'm sorry, I still have a few more words. My mom is the most selfless person I know. She did everything so I could get here. Thank you for coming and breaking the superstition about flying. That's not why I lost today.
I'm so happy to share this moment with you and for you to see it in person. I know you don’t really get to watch me play live anymore because you give so much for my sister and me. You always have. I love you so much.
