She had everything it took to be stronger than this, it's a waste," Benoit Maylin's analysis of Caroline Garcia's career

After about a decade on the professional tour, Caroline Garcia said goodbye to the world of tennis during her match against Rakhimova at the US Open. Defeated 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, the Frenchwoman thus ended her run at Flushing Meadows, where she had reached the semifinals in 2022—her best Grand Slam result.
While this retirement moved tennis fans and observers, it also reignited the debate about the career of the French player. Indeed, many believe she did not achieve results matching her potential, as reflected in the comments made by journalist Benoit Maylin on the show Sans Filet:
"With Caro Garcia, we had national celebrations, business-class takeoffs, but also major crashes. When I look at her potential when she started in 2011 with that famous match against Sharapova, and we see that physique, that quality of shot-making, that ability to play with power.
I mean waste—I expected much more from her than a Grand Slam semifinal. The negative relationship she had with her father, even though he was the one who initially brought her to that level. At some point, she should have separated from her father, and she said it herself, she would have had a better career.
She should have been capable of being stronger, of varying her game, improving her play, enriching her shot selection, her tactical range. She had everything it took to be much stronger than this. It's a waste.
