"She is ready to win a Grand Slam," assures Wilander about Paolini
Last weekend, Jasmine Paolini won the second WTA 1000 tournament of her career at home. After Dubai last year, the Italian, World No. 4, triumphed in Rome after defeating Coco Gauff in the final (6-4, 6-2).
A great performance that concluded a flawless run for Paolini, although she came close to elimination in the quarter-finals when she was down 7-6, 4-0 to Diana Shnaider. Eurosport consultant Mats Wilander discussed Jasmine Paolini's tournament.
"Jasmine completely reshuffled the cards. I was in the stadium when she played against Gauff. She really started her match well. But despite that, I thought Coco would eventually turn the situation around because she is one of the best players in the world, and she didn't succeed.
Paolini dominated the exchanges most of the time, and I didn't think she was capable of that. I think we realized she has no weaknesses. She doesn't have a powerful serve due to her size, so she doesn't get free points on her serves.
But when the ball is in play, I don't think there's a better player in women's tennis right now. She's even better than Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek because she doesn't win free points on her serve.
She is so pleasant to watch because she moves incredibly well. We know her mindset; she is always smiling. Even with all the pressure she must have felt going onto the court to play the final, Jasmine kept smiling.
She had lost several important finals last year. Now, she is truly ready to win a Slam," the former Swedish professional player explained for Eurosport in recent hours.
