"She should take the rest of the year to rest," says Stubbs about Gauff after her elimination at the US Open

Coco Gauff was defeated in the round of 16 at the US Open. Facing a very strong Naomi Osaka, the American, who won the title in New York two years ago, was overpowered by the Japanese player (6-3, 6-2) in a match where the world number 3 did not earn a single break point.
With 8 winners and, more significantly, 33 unforced errors, Gauff could not compete with an opponent who has won four Grand Slams in the past and is gaining momentum as the season progresses.
Although the 21-year-old confirmed that she was not at her best emotionally, former professional player Rennae Stubbs suggests she make a radical decision for the end of the season.
"I think she should take the rest of the year to rest and decompress. Because today, we saw a more complete tennis player in Naomi Osaka.
She has a more complete serve and better control of her shots from the baseline. Her forehand, her backhand... she knows what she's doing. She sees a short ball and she knows where she's going to hit it.
With Coco (Gauff), sometimes it feels like she doesn't know whether to hit high or flat. The match point was just a neutral forehand with no real difficulty, right into the middle of the net," Stubbs stated to Tennis Up To Date.
Gauff has many points to defend at the end of this season. At the end of last year, she won the WTA 1000 in Beijing and the WTA Finals, also reaching the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan before losing to the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka.
