Shelton interrupted while serving for the win in his second round at Wimbledon
The lighting conditions and lack of floodlights on the outer courts continue to frustrate players this week at Wimbledon.
While the two main courts can host matches until 11 p.m., the outside courts depend on natural light. Ben Shelton was leading 6-2, 7-5, 5-4 in his second-round match against Rinky Hijikata and was about to serve for the match when he saw the supervisor arrive on Court No. 2.
Despite the world No. 10 being one game away from victory, the decision was made to suspend the match and bring both players back tomorrow to finish. Shelton, visibly annoyed by the decision, had missed three opportunities to close out the match on his opponent's serve at 5-3, 40-0.
The winner of this match will face Gaël Monfils or Marton Fucsovics, who were also interrupted by nightfall (4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7).
