Sinner takes the lead from Alcaraz!
Against the run of play, Jannik Sinner won the third set of this semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz (6-2, 3-6, 6-3 after 2h30 of play).
Far from his best tennis (23 winners, 36 unforced errors), and clearly not at his best physically, the Transalpine nevertheless managed to take advantage of his opponent's nervousness to find himself one set away from the French Open final.
It has to be said, though, that the quality of play wasn't quite what we'd hoped for. In a very disjointed match, the two men didn't really reach the heights of their game.
On one side of the pitch, Alcaraz looked frightfully nervous and struggled to reproduce good sequences. Far too often at fault (34 winners, 38 unforced errors) and looking somewhat helpless, the Spaniard was unable to seize his chance.
On the other hand, Sinner is no longer at his best. Visibly bothered at the hip since the second set, it seems he's also starting to cramp up in his right hand and right arm. In spite of this, the Italian showed his fighting spirit and opportunism to take control of the match against the run of play.
In a rather incomprehensible scenario, it was the Italian who proved to be the cleverest. Seeking to shorten exchanges and hitting harder and harder, he was able to take advantage of a completely apathetic world number 3, who played right into his opponent's hands.
With a succession of crude errors and playing right into Sinner's forehand, 'Carlito' could come away from this match with huge regrets.
