Sinner triumphs over Rinderknech in his Roland-Garros debut

For the second night session of the tournament, the organizers decided to offer the Philippe-Chatrier crowd a match between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Arthur Rinderknech.
Unlucky in the draw, the Frenchman seized his chance on the central court. Sinner took command fairly quickly in the match, but the game lasted a bit longer than the spectators expected.
Rinderknech, with his back against the wall, relaxed in the third set and challenged the Italian for several games, even leading 4-0. However, the momentum was short-lived as Sinner gradually closed the gap, with his opponent also starting to tense up on crucial points.
By winning seven of the next eight games from a 0-4 deficit, the world No. 1 eventually secured a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 victory in 2h15. In the second round, he will face Richard Gasquet, just like last year.
