Stats - From unranked to top 60, Osaka had the best WTA ranking progression in 2024

The review of the 2024 season continues. In the WTA, a number of players returned to the forefront or revealed themselves to the general public.

The X account (formerly Twitter) Opta Ace has analyzed the five players with the biggest gains in 2024 compared with their rankings on January 1.

In first place, we find Naomi Osaka. Having returned from pregnancy at the start of the season, the Japanese player had no ranking but has made a dazzling comeback, now ranked 58th in the world.

The four-time Grand Slam winner will be looking to build on this momentum in 2025.

Silver went to Amanda Anisimova. The American, who had taken a career break, is back with a vengeance.

Ranked 373rd at the start of the year, she is now very close to a Grand Slam top seed, as she is ranked 36th in the world.

Her comeback included a final at the Toronto Masters 1000 this summer against Jessica Pegula.

On the third step of the podium, we find Emma Raducanu, who has finally been spared injury.

The surprise winner of the 2021 US Open was outside the top 300 in January, but her results have enabled her to be ranked 57th at the end of the 2024 season.

Caroline Wozniacki, who has come out of retirement, was ranked 256th in the world at the start of 2024 and has now returned to the top 70.

Finally, the revelation of the last Wimbledon, Lulu Sun, was 214th and is now 40th in the WTA rankings.
