Dans la 2e demie, l'Allemand vient de prendre sa revanche sur Karatsev qui l'avait battu au 2e tour des qualifs il y a 10 jours. Il devient par la même occasion le 1er Lucky Loser de l'histoire à atteindre la finale d'un Masters 1000.
