Svitolina Dominates Collins in Rome and Reaches Her Second Consecutive WTA 1000 Quarterfinal
Elina Svitolina has been in Olympic form since the start of the clay-court season. After winning the title in Rouen and reaching the semifinals in Madrid, the world No. 14 secured her spot in the quarterfinals in Rome this Monday.
She achieved this by mastering her opponent, Danielle Collins, who had just stunned Iga Swiatek two days prior. Five breaks of serve allowed Svitolina to cruise to a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 victory, despite an inconsistent serve (51% first serves in, 5 double faults).
For her fifth career quarterfinal at the Foro Italico (the second-highest tally among active players), Svitolina will face Peyton Stearns. This will be a first-time matchup, as the two have never played each other on tour.
