Facing Sonmez on the Suzanne-Lenglen court, Svitolina set the tone in this Roland-Garros. The Ukrainian was the first player to qualify, effortlessly defeating her opponent in just over an hour of play (1 hour 12 minutes) with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Having won in Rouen, reached the semifinals in Madrid, and the quarterfinals in Rome, the 30-year-old player is enjoying a very high-quality clay court season so far, with 13 victories in 15 matches. This also marks Svitolina's 30th victory at the Porte d'Auteuil.
In the second round, she will face the winner of the match between Bondar and Siegemund.
