Swiatek is one set away from a fourth French Open title!
Iga Swiatek is more at home than ever at Roland Garros. Already crowned three times (2020, 2022, 2023), she is now just one set away from a fourth crown, all at just 23 years of age. Up against a valiant Jasmine Paolini, the Polish player dictated play perfectly to win the first set with great authority (6-2 in 35 minutes).
Paolini had a tough time of it. Although she played a high-quality match (4 winners, 6 unforced errors), she simply couldn't find the weapons to destabilize an unflappable world number 1. Starting the match with her foot to the floor and even breaking from the outset (2-1), the Transalpine was unable to respond to the intensity of the Polish player's game. Overwhelmed by her opponent's power and resilience (11 winners, 7 unforced errors), she even conceded 5 games in a row. Simply not as strong.
Swiatek is now just one set away from retaining her throne.
