On her return to clay courts, Iga Swiatek comfortably defeated Jan Fett in her opening match at Stuttgart. Benefiting from a first-round bye, the world No. 2 eliminated the Croatian player in just 1 hour and 15 minutes with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Polish player capitalized on her opponent's nine double faults and four break points conceded (out of 14 attempts) to cruise into the quarterfinals.
Last year, the 23-year-old fell in the semifinals of the German tournament to Rybakina in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
The five-time Grand Slam champion will face the winner of the match between Ostapenko and Navarro for a spot in the semifinals.
