Swiatek, Merciless Against Muchova, Advances to the Quarterfinals at Indian Wells
Iga Swiatek's smooth journey at Indian Wells continues. Undeniably unstoppable on the Californian courts, the Polish player, who has only lost four games in her first two matches of the American tournament against Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-0) and Dayana Yastremska (6-0, 6-2), faced Karolina Muchova for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The Czech player had not dropped a single set in her first two rounds, against Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-4, 6-3) and then Katerina Siniakova (7-5, 6-1), but saw the difficulty level rise significantly. The match promised to be tight, as the two women were tied with two wins each in their previous encounters.
However, the anticipated battle did not materialize. Facing a Muchova who made many unforced errors, the Polish player, as in her previous rounds, did not need to push herself to secure her place in the quarterfinals.
In the end, after less than an hour of play, Swiatek triumphed (6-1, 6-1) and now awaits the winner of the match between Zheng Qinwen and Marta Kostyuk, which will take place later tonight.
This marks Swiatek's ninth consecutive victory in California, having already triumphed twice at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells in 2022 and 2024, both times against Maria Sakkari.
Consistently strong in this tournament, she reaches the quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive year. Her dreams of a third title in this tournament remain intact, and Swiatek is the first player in the women's draw to reach the Final 8 in this 2025 edition.
