Swiatek qualifies in pain
Iga Swiatek struggled to qualify for the 2nd round of the US Open. The world number 1 played a match of very average quality (30 winners and 41 unforced errors) to get the better of Kamilla Rakhimova (9 winners/24 unforced errors). She prevailed in almost 2 hours and 2 sets (6-4, 7-6[6]), notably saving 3 consecutive 2nd set points.
In the 2nd round, the Pole will face the surprising Japanese Ena Shibahara, ranked 217th in the world at 26 years of age.
