Swiatek tested positive for Covid in her semi-final against Kalinskaya in Dubai

This year, Iga Swiatek played in the semi-finals of the Dubai Masters 1000.

After a faultless run, the Pole eliminated Sloane Stephens, Elina Svitolina and Zheng Qinwen without dropping a set.

However, the current world No.2 lost to Anna Kalinskaya in the last four (6-4, 6-4).

In the last few hours, the Polish player's staff have issued a statement concerning this lost match against the Russian.

Apparently suffering from a cold, Swiatek quickly seemed to run out of energy, lost the match and then went for tests afterwards.

These revealed that she had tested positive for Covid and had therefore played the match against Kalinskaya with the disease.

Swiatek made a full recovery, and in her next tournament, she won the Indian Wells Masters 1000 without losing a set (Collins, Noskova, Putintseva, Wozniacki, Kostyuk and Sakkari).
