"The Australian Open is my main goal now," says Alcaraz after his US Open victory
After winning the US Open for the second time, Alcaraz has reclaimed the world number one ranking, which Sinner had held for 65 weeks (since June 2024). Although he now has two titles at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and now Flushing Meadows, the Spaniard has yet to win the Australian Open.
Questioned by the press after his intense match against the Italian, the 22-year-old player made the first Major of the year his main goal for the rest of his career:
"The Australian Open is my main goal. I dream of winning the Grand Slam, but it doesn't matter to me whether I achieve it before or after Sinner. If it's not in 2026, I'll try again the following year, or the year after that. What I want is to get there, no matter when."
For reference, Alcaraz has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
