The friendly exchange between Nishikori and Shapovalov after their clash in Hong Kong
In recent hours, Kei Nishikori has won one of the great first-round matches of the Hong Kong tournament.
The Japanese, who had inherited Denis Shapovalov for his first match, won without really forcing his talent (6-2, 6-3).
After the match, the 25-year-old Canadian posted a message on his X account.
"Thank you all for the warm welcome to Hong Kong. It was a great way to start the season with the incredible support of the fans here.
Unfortunately, I've been battling a virus and I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to play to my full potential. Nevertheless, I did what I could. I hope to be back next year."
In the comments below the publication, Nishikori himself addressed a message to Shapovalov.
"Get well soon Denis, I hope you feel better soon. See you in Melbourne," wrote the 35-year-old before playing his second round match in Hong Kong against Karen Khachanov.
Denis Shapovalov didn't stop there, however, and replied to the 2014 US Open finalist: "Thanks brother, good luck for the future," concluded the Canadian.
