"The Guys Don't Care": Isner and Querrey Criticize the Current Version of the Davis Cup
As the 2025 Davis Cup comes to an end this Sunday with an Italy–Spain final, the competition's format has been widely criticized throughout the week, both by the players involved and by other tennis stakeholders.
For example, the withdrawals of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti reignited the debate. On the Nothing Major podcast, Sam Querrey did not hesitate to point the finger at a system that, in his opinion, is running on empty:
"Musetti isn't playing even though it's taking place in Italy, and it's the same for Sinner. That shows how much the format isn't working, since the team has to do without its two best players."
John Isner also targeted a widespread lack of interest:
"If I asked you to name the eight countries qualified for the final phase, you might find four, but without certainty. You have to go check, even to know which players are participating. The guys don't care. The competition should take place every other year."
