The labor court will rule on the dispute between Escudé, former national technical director, and the FFT in October
The dispute between Nicolas Escudé and the French Tennis Federation (FFT) is heading to court. The former National Technical Director of the FFT from 2021 to 2024, Escudé was removed from his position by FFT President Gilles Moretton in November 2023.
On sick leave for several months until the final termination of his contract in July 2024, the former professional tennis player was replaced in March by Didier Retière, a former rugby player and ex-National Technical Director of the French Rugby Federation.
But Escudé, a former world No. 17 in the ATP rankings, is not letting the matter rest. As reported by *L’Équipe* on Thursday morning, the case will be heard by the labor court in October. In November 2023, when Escudé was informed of his removal, his lawyer wrote to the Ministry of Sports, calling the decision "hasty and brutal."
For context, it was former Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra who appointed Escudé as National Technical Director in 2021, as the position operates under dual oversight. While the FFT handles salary matters, the Ministry of Sports sets the roadmap and objectives for the role.
