The Monfils-Kyrgios duo knocked out early in Washington

The highly anticipated pairing of Monfils and Kyrgios didn’t last long in the Washington tournament. Facing the experienced duo Nys-Roger-Vasselin, the two men’s tour stars managed to win only four games in the entire match, exiting in the first round (6-2, 6-2). The match lasted just 59 minutes.
This early exit did little to reassure fans about the Australian’s return to top form. Initially entered in singles, Kyrgios ultimately withdrew due to injuries that have plagued him for months. It’s worth noting that he had previously won the American tournament twice (2019, 2022).
As for the Frenchman, he also claimed the singles title in 2019 and will begin his campaign against China’s Yibing Wu. At 38, Monfils has displayed strong form in the first half of the season, which notably saw him win the ATP 250 in Auckland earlier this year.
