The Return of Ben Shelton: American Star Set to Return to the Courts in Shanghai
The young American, ranked 6th in the world, has arrived in China to compete in the Shanghai Masters 1000: a confirmation of his return to the tour after several withdrawals.
Ben Shelton's summer was split between joy and distress, winning his first career Masters 1000 in Toronto in early August, before withdrawing in the third round of the US Open due to a shoulder injury.
Having withdrawn from the Davis Cup, the Laver Cup, and also from Tokyo this week, the world No. 6 was spotted at Shanghai airport on Sunday.
A video was posted by the tournament's account on Weibo (a Chinese social network), confirming that Shelton will return to competition next week. As the season nears its end, the 22-year-old player is aiming for his first qualification for the ATP Finals (he is currently 5th in the Race).
