Seeded number 26, Marta Kostyuk was knocked out in the first round at Roland-Garros. The Ukrainian suffered a heavy loss against the Czech qualifier Sara Bejlek (6-3, 6-1).

A disappointment for Kostyuk, who had an interesting clay season. In a press conference, the quarterfinalist in Doha and Madrid this year spoke about her defeat.

"It's impossible to know exactly why I lost. I'm just like everyone else. There are days when nothing works. And today, that was exactly the case.

Nonetheless, I must say that my opponent played high-level tennis. I, on the other hand, played poorly. It's unfortunate that it happened during a Grand Slam tournament, but that's how it is. I believe that after heavy defeats, victories always come.

I can't change today's result, but I can keep working. Nothing catastrophic happened. She (Bejlek) has a very specific style of play. I think clay suits her well, it's her preferred surface.

I'm sure I'll have a better chance to take my revenge if we have to face each other on hard or grass," Kostyuk told the local media Tribuna after the match.

Exhausted but omnipresent stars, ever-longer tournaments and exhibitions that have become a business in their own right: tennis is revealing its deepest contradictions, torn between spectacle and physical survival.

Born almost by accident in an Acapulco garden, padel has in fifty years become a global phenomenon that both fascinates and worries tennis. Its meteoric rise is already reshaping the landscape of racket sports.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
