They have potential but can't regularly travel to Europe," Kafelnikov discusses young Russian players
Yevgeny Kafelnikov, vice-president of the Russian Tennis Federation and former world No. 4, spoke to the Russian media Championat about young Russian players and their development.
For him, the conflict involving his country is hindering their progress: "We have players with the potential to compete. They are technically well-equipped. But there’s still a lot of work to be done.
Due to what has happened to us over the last three and a half years, they can’t regularly travel to Europe to see how their peers are progressing and what their goals are.
Of course, we’re making the most of what we have, thanks to tremendous efforts, but unfortunately, it’s still not enough.
But I repeat, we’re doing everything possible so that the boys and girls can travel, compete, and see their opponents. They are certainly present, but they have to work hard.
