"This is a crucial tournament for me," Gauff seeks confidence in Montreal
In the absence of Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff is the top seed at the WTA 1000 in Montreal.
On a streak of three consecutive defeats since her triumph at Roland-Garros, Gauff hopes to start this North American tour on a positive note. Speaking to reporters, she admitted that this tournament will already be decisive in building confidence ahead of the US Open:
"I don’t know if the playing conditions suit my game. History shows that I usually don’t perform well here. My best result is a quarterfinal, so I’d like to do better.
This is a crucial tournament for me because I want to have a strong hard-court season. Whatever the result, I think I have a lot to learn here."
The world No. 2 will begin tomorrow against her compatriot Danielle Collins.
