Tiafoe beats Rune to join Sinner in the final
Is Frances Tiafoe saving his 2024 season?
Plunged into a very disappointing year, in which he had so far failed to put in any truly satisfying performances, the American champion is resurrecting himself at home.
After some convincing opening matches, he held off a very good Lehecka in the round of 16 (6-4, 6-7, 7-6) before taking advantage of Hurkacz's withdrawal in the quarter-finals (6-3 ab.).
Qualified for the last four, Tiafoe held his nerve to finally dispose of a Holger Rune who was back to his best tennis (4-6, 6-1, 7-6).
After a difficult start, the current world No. 27 gradually raised his game to win the tie-break in the 3rd set. Even saving two match points, the unpredictable American had an answer for everything on Sunday.
In the final, he'll have to climb quite a mountain, as it's Jannik Sinner's turn this Monday.
