Tiafoe Defeats Humbert to Reach Cincinnati Round of 16
Frances Tiafoe overcame Ugo Humbert in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000.
Both players had straightforward starts to the tournament, with Tiafoe defeating Roberto Carballes Baena (6-4, 6-3) and Humbert dominating Coleman Wong (6-3, 6-4).
In their first meeting in nearly four years, the world No. 14 defeated the Frenchman 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 25 minutes. The match began well for Humbert, who led 4-1 in the first set. However, he then collapsed, losing five consecutive games. Quickly broken in the second set, he was never able to trouble the American on his serve.
A finalist at the tournament last year, Tiafoe continues his run in Ohio. He will face Holger Rune in a rematch of their semifinal from last season, which he won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.
