"Top Officials Need to Think About It," Arthur Fils Criticizes the New Masters 1000 Format
The new Masters 1000 format continues to draw criticism. By extending the duration of the tournament, tennis authorities have alienated a large portion of the players, including Arthur Fils. According to him, these two-week events are not a good thing for the professional tour:
"The schedule is too packed, and the two-week Masters 1000s are long and not easy. It’s something the top officials need to think about because there are a lot of injuries and many players complaining. Over time, I hope this will change," he said in an interview with *L'Équipe*, as reported by *We Love Tennis*.
Injured in his back since Roland-Garros, Fils will make his return in Toronto against Carreno Busta, a player he has faced only once before—this year in Barcelona (Fils won 7-6, 6-3).
