Tribute to Thiem and other retired players at the ATP Finals
Prior to the final meeting of the Newcombe group between Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev, the ATP decided to organize a ceremony to pay tribute to several players who had retired this season, including Dominic Thiem.
The Austrian, a two-time Masters finalist in 2019 and 2020, took to the court in Turin to receive a tribute after retiring in Vienna last month.
Microphone in hand, he said: "I'm very happy to have an official ATP farewell ceremony at this tournament. Tennis is my greatest passion and it's great to have achieved so much more than I could have imagined."
He wasn't the only player present at the ceremony, as John Millman (world No. 33 in 2018) and Joao Sousa, Portugal's No. 1 for many years, were also honored.
Finally, despite not having appeared on the circuit since 2021, Ivo Karlovic was also honoured by the ATP. The Croatian, known for his fearsome serve, announced his retirement this year at the age of 44.
