Tsitsipas after his withdrawal against Fils in Barcelona: "This time, my body had enough"
This Friday, Stefanos Tsitsipas was forced to withdraw after just two short games against Arthur Fils. While he didn’t seem to be at his best at the start of the match, the Greek player, a four-time finalist at the Barcelona tournament in his career, was unable to compete at 100% this time.
As a result, it was indeed the Frenchman who took advantage to advance to the semifinals. On Instagram, Tsitsipas posted a message explaining the reasons for his withdrawal, which was confirmed by the tournament organizers hours after the match as being due to back pain.
"Barcelona is one of my favorite stops on the tour. Playing here is always a pleasure. The clay, the energy, and the passion of the people make it a special place. But this time, my body had enough.
I had to withdraw due to discomfort in my back. Thank you for your love and support—you are incredible. I will come back stronger and ready to enjoy this amazing city once again," Tsitsipas wrote on social media, without confirming whether he will participate in the upcoming Madrid Masters 1000.
