Tsitsipas on the calendar: "A real ordeal".
To say the least, the ATP's calendar reform has not made everyone happy.
While criticism continues to rage among players and followers of the sport alike, Stefanos Tsitsipas recently voiced his personal criticism.
Looking back on a Masters 1000 in Paris that would have been a success had it been played in the classic one-week format, the Greek didn't mince his words: "The two weeks of Masters 1000 have become a real ordeal. The quality has clearly dropped.
The players don't have the recovery or training time they need, with constant matches and no space for intense work off the court.
It's ironic that the ATP has committed itself to this format without knowing whether it could actually improve the schedule, but also the quality.
Paris succeeded, in one week. Exciting and easy to follow. Exactly as it should be.
If the aim was to lighten the calendar, extending all Masters 1000 events to two weeks is a step backwards.
