Two Frenchwomen Competing in the First Round of Qualifiers in Miami This Sunday

While the women's final of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells between Aryna Sabalenka and Mirra Andreeva takes place this Sunday evening in California, attention turns to the start of the qualifiers for the second event of the Sunshine Double, in Miami.
A few hours before the main draw, two French players will be on the courts for the first round of qualifiers, aiming to advance to the next round. They are Léolia Jeanjean and Ksenia Efremova. The former will face Tatjana Maria, ranked 87th in the world.
The two players faced each other in the final of Bangalore in January, with the German narrowly winning (6-7, 6-3, 6-4). The 29-year-old Frenchwoman, ranked 126th in the world, hopes to get her revenge. A few days after losing in the second round of qualifiers at Indian Wells to Hailey Baptiste, Jeanjean hopes to secure a spot in the main draw this time.
Meanwhile, Ksenia Efremova will experience her first WTA 1000 event. The 15-year-old, ranked 743rd in the world, has been invited by the Florida tournament organizers to participate in the qualifiers and will face Aoi Ito, ranked 112th in the WTA rankings, in an attempt to reach the second round.
If she succeeds against the Japanese player, she will face Petra Martic or Eva Lys in her next match. Both French players have been scheduled for the second rotation on their respective courts. The first matches of the day will begin at 4:00 PM French time this Sunday, March 16.
