Ugo Blanchet faced James Duckworth (138th) in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Almaty (Kazakhstan).

Having come through the qualifiers after his victories against Simakin (6-3, 6-7, 7-6) and Hijikata (7-5, 6-2), Ugo Blanchet was defeated in the first round by Australian Duckworth (6-3, 6-4).

After a heroic run at the US Open: a third-round defeat following three qualifying matches and a victory against a top 20 player, Mensik, the Frenchman competed a few days later at the Saint-Tropez Challenger (first-round loss to Echargui).

Before Almaty, the 26-year-old player, ranked 150th in the ATP, managed to reach the first round of the Shanghai Masters 1000, but he lost to Argentine Comesana (6-4, 6-2).

Meanwhile, his opponent of the day, Duckworth, had also come through the qualifiers and will face Canadian Gabriel Diallo (35th) in the second round.
