US Open: Cazaux, Top Seed in Qualifying, Falls One Match Short of Main Draw
Arthur Cazaux, ranked 75th in the world, was just one step away from the main draw of the US Open.
After victories against Lajal (6-4, 6-1) and Clarke (6-3, 6-4) to advance to the third round, the Frenchman faced Jan-Lennard Struff today, an opponent he had defeated in July during the quarterfinals in Kitzbühel on clay.
But on the American hard court, Cazaux succumbed to the German's game, losing 7-6, 6-3 in 1 hour and 47 minutes. He can still hold out hope of entering the main draw as a lucky loser, having been the top seed in these qualifiers.
