Vacherot reflects on his victory against Rinderknech: "I'm playing with a lot of confidence at the moment"
Valentin Vacherot defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech for the second time this month, this time in the second round of the Paris Masters 1000.
Vacherot and Rinderknech are inseparable! After facing each other in the final of the Shanghai Masters 1000 to general surprise, the two cousins met again in the second round of the Paris Masters 1000 in recent hours, with the same result as in China.
The Monegasque player gained the upper hand over the Frenchman in three sets (6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in 2h54). Before facing Cameron Norrie this Thursday, the 26-year-old player looked back on his match against Rinderknech.
"It was a long and very grueling match. It demanded a lot of energy from me, I feel tired, but I have time to recover well before tomorrow. The first set was difficult for both of us. We were both very nervous, and I think it showed.
After the first set, I felt better, the tension had eased a bit. The early break in the second set helped me a lot, and I managed to do the same thing in the third.
At the start of the third set, I had the advantage and was controlling the game, but then things got complicated because Arthur (Rinderknech) was serving very well. Overall, I'm satisfied with my serve and the fact that I was able to put pressure on him during his service games.
Against Lehecka, I controlled the game from start to finish. Today, there was more tension, and on top of that, they are two players with completely different styles, so it's hard to display the same level every day, especially since Arthur is simply playing brilliantly at the moment.
There were mistakes today, but I am undoubtedly playing with a lot of confidence at the moment," he stated after his match against Rinderknech for the media outlet Tribuna.
