Jeline Vandromme claimed the US Open juniors girls' title this Saturday, overcoming qualifier Lea Nilsson (7-6, 6-2) in 1 hour and 31 minutes of play.
This is the first junior Grand Slam won by the 17-year-old player, who is already part of the WTA top 500 (495th this week). Seeded 14th in the draw and ranked 21st in the junior world rankings, the Belgian did not drop a single set in her six matches played.
She thus becomes the first player from her country to win the US Open juniors since Kirsten Flipkens in 2003 and the first to win a Grand Slam since 2011 and An-Sophie Mestach at the Australian Open.
