Video - Laver Cup: Zverev erupts after a let is missed by the chair umpire
Outperformed on the court at the Laver Cup yesterday, Zverev found a new opponent: the chair umpire. His outburst during the match summed up the frustration of a dark day for Europe.
The second day of the Laver Cup turned into a nightmare for Team Europe, defeated in all four matches without winning a single set. Alexander Zverev was the first to fall to Alex De Minaur (6-1, 6-4), an opponent he had largely dominated in past encounters (8-2 before the match).
The German's frustration was evident at 1-6, 4-4, 15-40, when one of his serves clipped the net but was not called a let by the chair umpire. He then approached the umpire, very annoyed:
"Everyone saw it. Are you kidding? It’s the most obvious let there’s ever been. The ball dropped on the side, how could you miss that? Are you serious?"
The chair umpire then apologized for this mistake. Zverev, already struggling with his serve, eventually conceded the break and lost a few minutes later.
