Video - The name of the new pope was announced on the center court in Rome

Late in the day, just after 6 p.m., the Vatican conclave named the new Pope Leo XIV. A few kilometers away from this event, which made headlines across international media, the Rome tournament was still in full swing.

During the first set between Jacob Fearnley and Fabio Fognini, the tournament organizers decided to broadcast the news on the giant screens of the center court (see video below).

An unusual moment that served as a reminder that the new pope is a fan of the little yellow ball. He had declared in 2023 that he was "a big tennis fan" and expressed his wish to "return to playing on the courts," though his duties left him no time to hit the ball.
