Video - Thiem Makes Surprise Appearance at Munich Tournament

This week, some of the world's best players are competing at the ATP 500 tournament in Munich. For the occasion, the organizers of the Bavarian event aimed to make a splash with a few surprises.
Earlier today, during the first round, Francesco Cerundolo defeated Jan-Lennard Struff (6-0, 6-2) and advanced to the round of 16. He will face Alexander Shevchenko in an attempt to reach the quarterfinals.
Just before the match began, a familiar face in the tennis world made a surprise appearance on the center court of the German tournament.
Indeed, Dominic Thiem, former world No. 3 and winner of the 2020 US Open, among other titles, conducted the coin toss to determine which player would start the match serving (see video below).
Officially retired since his first-round loss at the Vienna tournament against Luciano Darderi last October, the 31-year-old Austrian remains close to the courts. He took the opportunity to snap a photo with his two former ATP Tour colleagues, Cerundolo and Struff, before they began their match shortly after.
