Video - Things Heated Up Between Grenier and Gomez in the Final Round of US Open Qualifying
World No. 188 Hugo Grenier was very close to making it out of the qualifying rounds at the season's final Grand Slam, the US Open. Leading 7-6, 4-0 against Federico Agustin Gomez, the Frenchman then collapsed, ultimately losing in three sets (6-7, 7-6, 6-2).
But the match was marked by a heated clash between the two players (see video below). Just after winning the second set, Agustin Gomez made gestures toward his opponent, telling him to be quiet. Grenier, who didn't appreciate it, then approached the Argentine.
Tension rose several notches, and the two men confronted each other in front of the spectators on Court 10, forcing the umpire to step down from his chair to calm the protagonists. The confrontation lasted several seconds before calm was restored and the match resumed.
