Videos - Fonseca goes wild!
Joao Fonseca is having an amazing Next Gen Masters. At 18, the Brazilian nugget, who has risen nearly 600 places in the rankings since January, is still surprising the world.
Having beaten Arthur Fils in his first match (3-4, 4-2, 4-1, 1-4, 4-1), he confirmed this against Learner Tien on Thursday (4-0, 4-0, 1-4, 4-2). Already assured of playing in the semi-finals and finishing top of his group, the Brazilian is impressing.
Aggressive from the baseline and an unrivalled counter-attacker, Fonseca totally overwhelmed Tien on Thursday, particularly at the start of the match (4-0, 4-0). In particular, he produced a crazy forehand winner at the end of the stroke (see video below).
A shot that sums up the 18-year-old's current level of play.
