Vondrousova, absent from Indian Wells, is expected to miss several months of competition
Marketa Vondrousova's physical problems continue to disrupt the Czech player's career. After ending her 2024 season following her first-round defeat at Wimbledon, where she was the defending champion, the world No. 45 also withdrew from the Australian Open after sustaining an injury in Adelaide during her comeback tournament in January.
Upon her return in Abu Dhabi, she reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Elina Svitolina in Doha and then by Mirra Andreeva, the eventual tournament winner, in Dubai.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old player, she was unable to participate in the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells, and her withdrawal benefited Caroline Garcia, who entered the main draw directly.
On her Instagram account, Vondrousova explained the reasons for her absence in California and announced that she would be out of action for a while longer.
"I’m struggling again with my shoulder injury. Even though it’s not easy, I now have an intensive training and rehabilitation period ahead of me in the coming months to get my arm feeling better.
Patience and time are my priority right now, but I truly believe it will be worth it. I hope to be back on the court very soon. Thank you all for your support," Vondrousova wrote on the social network.
