Wawrinka and Cerundolo first players confirmed for Umag tournament
The Umag tournament, which takes place every year on the Croatian clay courts during the summer, is beginning to announce the participants for the 35th edition of the Croatia Open, which will take place from July 19 to 26, 2025. Defending champion Francisco Cerundolo will be making his return.
Cerundolo, who won an epic 3-hour final against Lorenzo Musetti last year (2-6, 6-4, 7-6) to claim his third career title, will be looking to complete a double that hasn't been achieved at Umag since Carlos Moya at the turn of the century (2001, 2002 and 2003).
The second player expected to take to the Croatian courts is Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss, who turns 40 in the coming weeks, won the first title of his career at Umag in 2006, taking advantage of Novak Djokovic's withdrawal to lift the trophy.
19 years later, he will be back in a city where he also reached the final in 2023, only to be beaten this time by Alexei Popyrin.
The tournament organization is delighted to welcome these two players and is already looking forward to welcoming the public to the 2025 edition of this annual event in Umag: "Get ready for another exciting summer of tennis", reads the official tournament website.
