We don't see different players, Lopez laments the homogenization of surfaces on the current tour

Feliciano Lopez gave an interview to Punto de Break in which he discussed, among other things, the current state of the tour.

The Spaniard, a former world No. 12 in singles, regrets that tournaments have decided to standardize and increasingly slow down court surfaces:

"We used to play at Roland Garros, at Wimbledon, on indoor carpet, and it was a completely different kind of tennis. Now, with the homogenization of surfaces, the differences have been reduced.

Playing on clay or grass is different, but it's not the same as before, because the grass is slower, the fast courts are slower. This means players' styles are more or less the same.

We don't see different players. For me, the beauty of tennis lies in the great diversity that has always existed. The surfaces used to force that too. Ivan Lendl stopped playing Roland Garros to win Wimbledon—he was obsessed.
