We still have a good relationship," Raducanu reflects on her friendship with Alcaraz
Since the announcement of their mixed doubles partnership for the upcoming US Open, Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu have been at the center of attention. Raducanu’s presence in the stands at Queen’s for the Spaniard’s semifinal only added fuel to the fire.
Amid the media frenzy, the British player spoke to *Express* about her friendship with Alcaraz:
"For the doubles, I asked my team if they were okay with me playing this competition. When Carlos asked me, I was ready to say yes. But I didn’t make the decision right away because I wanted to formally announce it to my coach.
I’ve known Carlos for years. At Wimbledon 2021, that’s where I got to know him, while having a good run myself. It happened again at the US Open 2021. I remember he always played the day before me. Watching him win gave me motivation to find myself in the same position.
I remember his win over Tsitsipas—it was a huge victory for him, one of his first big breakthroughs. It was cool to kind of go through that tournament together, even though I went all the way. We’ve stayed in touch ever since.
We still have a good relationship. Obviously, he’s far surpassed me, but it’s nice that we’ve kept this connection.
