"When he plays like that, he's a top 5 player," former Federer coach praises Tiafoe
Tiafoe is currently having a very impressive French Open tournament. Having qualified for the quarter-finals without losing a set, the American will try to continue his winning streak against the Italian Musetti. Interviewed by Tennis Channel, former coach of Federer and Sampras, Paul Annacone, discussed the 16th-ranked player in the world:
"When he plays like that, I think he's a top 5 player. When he doesn't play like that, he will still be between 8 and 20 because he's so good. What is crucial is the balance between mental and physical.
We don't often see Tiafoe winning four matches in three sets in major tournaments. He's been very good mentally, and he needs to continue in this direction. His challenge will be to find the right balance between very good and very bad performances."
His best performance in a Grand Slam to date remains his semi-final at the US Open in 2024 against his compatriot Fritz.
