"When we fail, it's in front of the entire world," Pegula's statement ahead of the US Open
Despite a very difficult American tour so far, Pegula will enter the US Open with the status of a finalist. On the main circuit since 2009, the 31-year-old player has experienced many ups and downs throughout her career.
Questioned by the press, the American reflected on the media aspect of her profession. A factor that is not always easy to manage, especially during defeats.
"These are life lessons. You learn about how to manage people, manage yourself, and manage your emotions. When we learn and fail, it's in front of many people, even in front of the entire world, especially if you are a top-level player. It makes you so much stronger."
Ranked 4th in the WTA standings, Pegula has still not advanced past the round of 16 in Grand Slam tournaments this season, eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open against Danilovic (7-6, 6-1), in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros against Boisson (3-6, 6-4, 6-4), and finally in her opening match at Wimbledon (6-2, 6-3).
