Why couldn't she win the US Open?" Wilander believes in Mboko's chances at the US Open

A true revelation at the Montreal tournament, Mboko made a strong impression by securing her first WTA 1000 title at just 18 years old. In New York, she will approach the final Grand Slam of the year with a new status—that of the world No. 24.
While many are not yet convinced by the Canadian, others believe the possibility of a major performance at the US Open is not at all out of the question. When asked about her chances at Flushing Meadows, Mats Wilander, former world No. 1, is among those excited by the young player.
"It's exciting because she is very mature athletically and she hits the ball incredibly well. Plus, she has an excellent attitude, so I think we're dealing with someone who will be fighting to win Grand Slam titles over the next ten years.
Is she already good enough to win a major tournament? Yes, maybe—she won Montreal. Why couldn't she win the US Open? We saw it with Raducanu. We saw it with Andreescu. They were both very young, just like Mboko.
These young players are really inspired by some of the younger champions, like Alcaraz for example. It helps these young players believe in their chances at just 18 years old, and Mboko is definitely one of them.
